Frozen Sunset at the Bass Hole Boardwalk Notecard
The winter of 2026 has been extremely cold and snowy on Cape Cod - a return to actual winter the way it should be in New England. Several weeks of below freezing air temperatures froze up the salt marsh at Bass Hole and this extremely popular summer sunset destination was completely deserted on this January evening. The sunset was muted with clouds moving across the horizon but the subdued pink colors matched the icy stillness of the marsh perfectly.
It would be almost impossible to take this photo at sunset in the summer without any people on the boardwalk - just one more reason I’ll take a cold winter over a sweltering summer any day.
