Sunrise Alpenglow in Tuckerman Ravine Notecard
I went 2 for 2 on beautiful sunrise hikes in March of 2025. On this cold and windy morning I met my friend David Simms in the dark at Pinkham Notch. We hiked up the Tuckerman Ravine trail by headlamp and made it to Hermit Lake in time to catch the alpenglow creeping it’s way down the headwall of the Ravine. By the time we turned around to hike back to the car the trail up was full of skiers and the sun was warming the snow into a soft slush - very different conditions from before dawn.
