Early Winter at Greenleaf Hut

Greenleaf Hut sits a bit more than a mile below the summit of Mount Lafayette and is the end of the Old Bridle Path. I took this photo of the completely frozen hut at dawn after turning around on a summit attempt at sunrise. When I first saw the hut on this hike it was a ghostly structure appearing in the faint beam of my headlamp. On the return leg of my hike, the early dawn light lit up the rime ice covered hut and surrounding forest with a cool blue light while the warm glow of sunrise began to peak over Mount Lafayette and Franconia Ridge above.
