Alpenglow on the Kinsman Range

After turning back from my sunrise summit attempt on Mount Lafayette, I felt a bit disheartened. The high winds and low visibility made me uneasy about pushing past the treeline to reach the top of Franconia Ridge. However, the conditions were ideal for capturing the photos I had in mind: snow-covered trees and a clear eastern horizon for the sunrise.
Despite making the wise decision to turn back, I was convinced that my 3:30 am start at the trailhead and the several thousand feet of climbing would be a futile endeavor. To my delightful surprise, as I descended the Old Bridle Path below Greenleaf Hut, the frosted peaks of the Kinsman Range across Franconia Notch began to radiate a warm golden alpenglow. I particularly liked this composition with the untouched snow burying the pine trees and framing the glowing mountains in the distance.
