David Howland Photo
The image shows a winter mountain landscape at sunset or sunrise, with snow-covered evergreen trees in the foreground and mountains in the background. The peaks are illuminated with warm orange-pink alpenglow on their upper slopes, contrasting with shadowed, darker lower slopes. Snow blankets the evergreen branches in the foreground, creating a detailed texture of white against the dark green needles. The sky is a clear, deep blue, and there are landslide paths visible as vertical white lines down the mountainside. The image captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow typical of winter mountain photography.

Winter Alpenglow on Mount Lincoln

Sometimes a clear sky can be a good thing for landscape photography and this was the case as the sun set below the horizon and alpenglow lit up the slopes of Mount Lincoln and Franconia Ridge.

A winter sunset casts pink and purple light across the snow-covered peak of Mount Lincoln in New Hampshire's White Mountains, with evergreen forests covering the shadowed lower slopes and white avalanche chutes cutting through the mountainside.
The image shows a panoramic view of mountain ranges at sunset, captured in New Hampshire's Franconia Notch region. The foreground features forested slopes covered in dense evergreen trees, while the dramatic peaks of the mountains rise against a pink and purple twilight sky. A small lake or pond is visible nestled in the valley between the mountains. The scene is captured during summer, with lush vegetation throughout. The composition emphasizes the scale and grandeur of the landscape through its wide format and layered perspective, from the foreground forest through multiple mountain ridges receding into the distance. The pink-hued sky creates a striking contrast with the deep blue-green tones of the mountains and forest below.
