A black and white winter forest scene on the Webster-Jackson Trail, where a narrow footpath with faint boot tracks winds into a dense woodland of trees so heavily laden with snow that their branches droop dramatically under the weight, creating a hushed, enclosed tunnel effect.

The winter of 2026 was great for hiking: sustained cold and lots of snow meant that the forests of the White Mountains were choked with snow and the snowshoe conditions were just about perfect. I took this photo on the Webster-Jackson trail about a mile below the summit of Mount Jackson. The trees were so heavily laden with snow and the snow level was so high on the ground that we felt like we were hiking through a tunnel.
