I took this panorama during golden hour before sunset from the summit of Mount Jackson in the White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire. The sun was setting to the west and bathing the slopes of the Presidential Range with a golden glow that contrasted beautifully with the blue skies above. This sunset hike up Mount Jackson with my friend Dave Simms might have been my favorite of the winter of 2026. The Presidential Range was covered in clouds and visibility was zero when we left the parking lot. After a few hours of climbing through the snowy forest, however, we broke out of the trees onto the summit of Mount Jackson and were rewarded with this cloudless sky and fantastic view of Mounts Washington, Monroe, Eisenhower, and Pierce.
