I took this photo on one of my favorite hiking trips of the winter in February of 2026. The northeast enjoyed a cold and snowy winter and the White Mountains were blanketed in a deep layer of fresh snow this evening. My friend Dave Simms and I hiked up Mount Jackson for sunset. When we left the parking lot, the Presidential Range was covered in clouds and visibility was zero. After a few hours of climbing through the snowy forest, however, we broke out of the trees onto the summit of Mount Jackson and were rewarded with this phenomenal view and beautiful pastel sunset.
