Great Sand Dunes and the Crestone Peaks Sunset
I visited Great Sand Dunes National Park because we happened to be nearby and I wasn’t sure when I’d be in this corner of Colorado again. After visiting, I would really like to plan a trip back with more time to explore!
The dunes were surprisingly massive against the backdrop of the Crestone Peaks and Sangre de Cristo range. I scoped out a few locations for sunset but ultimately the weather did its thing and a spring storm moved in across the mountains blocking out the light. There were a few minutes where the dunes were lit up by the low angle light to the west and the mountains covered in dark storm clouds and that’s when I took this photo.
